Lots of new work: great and small; coming to life for the first KARsT ceramics studio student/teacher; ‘UNEARTHED’ exhibition at @hoopgallery_torquay for the month of December at The MAC 77 Beach Road, Torquay. 10 ceramic artists will be showcasing their current work at the exhibition.
Only 6 weeks to go til the opening event on Dec 2nd from 3-5pm: hope to see you there, for some pre Xmas drinks and a dose of #unearthedhoop23 art.
We will be sharing the exhibition space with the very talented @caroline_borghetto_art who will exhibiting her paintings: complimenting the functional and sculptural ceramics.
After months of planning, research and testing, finished exhibition pieces are starting to come out of the kiln. More pics to come.
Great chance to pick up a bespoke piece of art for that extra special Christmas present for a special peep or treat yourself; and meet all the talented artists: many are emerging artists at the start of their ceramic careers.

Big day today: Master Jasper’s 2nd birthday today: he’s a big dog now: 🐕🐕
Jasper’s doing his evening rounds, just making sure everything is in order before he heads upstairs to bed.
I’ll be up in a minute, Jasper, I promise: just doing a spot of throwing some new pieces: getting ready for upcoming markets: Melbourne Ceramics Fair 28/29th Oct, and Geelong Ceramics Market Dec 9/10 and Bellarine Arts Trail @thehiveoceangrove ,Nov 4/5th.

Bit mad scientist tonight: toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog: bubbling broth: aka creative glaze testing 😂
Thanks Helen, for encouraging my collaborative idea: it took 12 months of planning to bring this together: so proud of the creative results. Just one more day to check it out.
Posted @withregram • @angleseaartspace Last days - today and Sat 10am-4pm, Sunday morning
When @karensteenbergen_ceramics mentioned last year she would like to curate an exhibition of collaborative artwork, we strongly encouraged her to submit an Expression of Interest for the 2023 program - and we're so glad she did.
Karen has a long history of collaborating as a ceramicist/artist and through her community development roles.
She actively nurtures the act of making together in her home studio where she holds classes and hosts a supporrive monthly get together of long term students.
Some of these students and creative partnerships (such as past Art Space Coordinator Elise Roberts @pebbleandstonetextiles) have contributed a beautiful collection of functional and sculptural objects to the exhibition.
Lee Turnley @purlbakefire shared at the opening how her relationship with Karen has grown from student to creative collaborator during this process, which is such a rewarding outcome for both.
Lee also enjoyed how the group problem solved together, sharing and developing skills and ideas. We see this happening in groups like the Anglesea Art House Printmakers. The shared studio environment becomes an incubator for progressing personal and collaborative projects It's a win win for everyone involved :^)
By the way, Lee is minding the exhibition today, pop in and say hi!

Can’t wait to pack the car and head down the highway for the Melbourne Ceramic Fair, Oct 28 and 29th at Brunswick Town Hall 10-4
Love chatting about all things clay or my latest travel inspired work. So pop by and say hi.
Posted @withregram • @threedayclay @karensteenbergen_ceramics Today we welcome ceramic teacher and practitioner Karen Steenbergen.
With a dedication to her craft and constant learning, Karen has committed her career to mastering the many and varied techniques of clay work, and shares this wealth of knowledge and passion with her students on Victoria's surf coast.
Taking inspiration from the varied landscapes of her surrounds, Karen creates works that directly reference the places she loves.
Platters are glazed in green and turquoise like the foaming waves of the ocean that laps at her doorstep, others are treated with the biscuity tones of the grassland plains or the green-grays of snow gums in the Victorian Alps.
Karen takes her observations wherever she goes, and has created works that speak of her surroundings away from home, such as sculptural vessels that depict the rooftops of Denmark, the looming towers of the Loy Yang Power station in the La Trobe Valley or the tightly built skiers huts in the villages on Dinner Plain.
Come and chat clay-making and love for landscape with Karen at our next event as part of @craftvictoria Craft Contemporary Program, and sponsored by @keaneceramics

It’s end of the term recycle clay time: 5 buckets of smelly gooey clay embarking on their first step of recycling onto plaster bats for drying; only 10 more buckets to start their journey.
And then onto the pug mill. It’s a long process, but so satisfying when it’s all done.

Posted @withregram • @angleseaartspace Join us on Saturday for the opening celebration of our beautiful new exhibition 'Collaborations', curated by Torquay ceramicist Karen Steenbergen @karensteenbergen_ceramics .
Working closely with others to create an artwork can be especially rewarding. It can be a dance of ideas - an opportunity for fresh perspectives to emerge through the sharing of knowledge and skills - to create something new and potentially unexpected. Each piece telling a unique story of cooperation.
Many of the artists in this exhibition have expressed how much fun the process has been, so Karen has asked them to share their process with us which will be sensational - the introduction and artist talks will start about 2.30pm. We look forward to seeing you!

Posted @withregram • @oceantrough Pushing out of my comfort zone! Today I started working on some bits and pieces for a group exhibition! Yup. I know. Not an artist 😳- but have found the courage to experiment with some thing I love. Clay. Nature. Stories. Engaging others. Thank you @karensteenbergen_ceramics for being such a wonderful teacher and mentor. Stay tuned. 🙏🏽💜
Big thanks to Zoey @zoeydevaney_fineart for inspiring a group of my ceramic students to get their work out into the public by applying for an exhibition at Hoop Gallery in Torquay for the month of December 2023, and being successful. Very exciting, and many other mixes of emotions. But mainly excitement about the possibilities. So we are off and running now with only 3 months til bump in, let the research, development and creating commence. More progress posts to come.
This one is from Zoey.

I am very excited to announce that after a year in the making, 19 artists are about to unveil their ‘Collaborations’ at the opening on Saturday 23rd September, 2023, 2-4pm at Anglesea Art Space.
It’s going to be a visually unexpected exhibition, with lots of mixed mediums: I don’t want to give away too much now, so come along to see what the ‘duos’ of artist have created together, and hear the stories of their collaborative journeys.

Day 2 of the Surf Coast Arts Trail
Thanks to everyone who came to visit my new studio/shop yesterday as part of the Surf Coast Arts Trail: this was the only photo I took at the start of the day: totally forgot to take more in the ‘busyiness’ of it all (that’s a great sign I think).
Jasper (the studio pup) was very happily greeting visitors all day, out front and it was a great spot in the sun to survey all the going’s on.
He will be back out front today; let’s hope the weather holds up for day 2.
And the shelves and bargain baskets will be restocked for today, including new ‘Surf Coast Views’ work that came hot out of the kiln yesterday. Nothing like a last minute firing to unveil.

As well as opening my studio/shop for the Surf Coast Arts Trail extravaganza this weekend,
I also have some bespoke sculptural vessels inspired by the ‘Highplains Seasons’, in the ‘Everything Matters’ Geelong Sculptors Exhibition at Eagles Nest Gallery in Aireys Inlet.
If you are not too exhausted from cruising around all the open studios: why not end your day with a champers at the Opening/Meet the artists event from 4-6pm on Saturday afternoon at Eagles Nest.
The group exhibition is open for 2 months, from tomorrow if you’d like to get a sneak peak. Lots of intriguing sculptures to peruse. @eaglesnestgallery
Beautiful winters morning view from the balcony. So nice to be able to see the water, now the trees have lost their leaves.
The countdown is on, only 2 more sleeps until the Surf Coast Arts Trail. Sat and Sunday 5/6th August: 10-4pm each day.
Just putting the finishing touches to my display shelves. Will post a sneak peak for you tomorrow. 😉
Only 5 days to go til I swing open the studio/shop door for the Surf Coast Arts Trail 2023.
Follow the new KARsT ceramics flags and pink flags, all the way from the Famers Market on Merrijig Drive, (pick up your coffee there on the way, on Saturday), go past the skatepark, then turn right into Scott Avenue, then left into Centreside Drive then right into WILSON St, and look out for the flag out the front of Number 16, on the left. I will be there to greet you with some yummy snacks, to keep you going.
There will be lots of demonstrations by some of my regular students throughout the weekend: new work to purchase from the new shop front, a seconds sale and some
August 5/6th. 10am to 4pm each day.
