RAKU workshop – FULL

RAKU firing

RAKU workshop – FULL

Raku refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing.  Western-style raku involves removing pottery from a kiln at 1000 degrees and placing quickly into containers with combustible materials.  It’s a wow kind of workshop: it is always a surprise to see what colours the firing brings out.

It’s a very hands-on firing experience and you may get a chance to put pieces into the combustible material bins. You are welcome to bring some of your own combustible materials to get unique effects, for example, horsehair.

Vincenza from La PasseggARTA, will lead the workshop.  Vincenza will bring her amazing custom made raku firing trailer.

Raku glazes will be provided.

Bring up to 3 prepared bisque fired pieces, no larger than 8cm x 15cm and your own lunch.  Some snacks will be provided.

Wear close-fitting clothes and closed shoes.

Contact Karen at karstceramics@gmail.com or phone 0417 539343 for booking details.  Limited places.
